Anglicare’s Positive Directions is a state-wide care co-ordination, information/referral, advocacy, nutrition and mental health advisory service for people living with HIV (or PLHIV) in Queensland.
Through our state-wide network of offices we offer a quality service supported by a dedicated team of specialists. We also provide outreach services to other areas of the state including far north, western and central Queensland.
Our team helps PLHIV to identify health goals and connects clients with services to assist with their HIV management and treatment. We also link clients to accommodation options, social/emotional support, employment, mental health, dietetics and wellbeing. We also promote the Better Health with Self Management framework as a proven way to help our clients.
By providing relevant information, including referrals and resources, we empower PLHIV and enable them to make informed decisions.
To access our services a PLHIV must first register as a Positive Directions client by contacting one of our offices located in Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville, Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast.
Referrals can be actioned by the individual or on the person’s behalf (with their consent) by their GP, therapist, community agency or sexual health service.
Once registered with Positive Directions, in addition to receiving support, advice and referrals, clients receive a useful Information Handbook, and are able to access a range of HIV/AIDS resources, including brochures, booklets and pamphlets on relevant topics such as new treatment information, living with HIV, nutrition and dietary hints, cookbook and other useful tools.
