Homelessness – youth

Homelessness - youthAnglicare provides counselling and accommodation services to young people aged 12 -18 who are at risk of homelessness or are homeless. Counselling support and mediation is available for young people and their families, and may deal with family conflict, behavioural issues, communication skills or conflict with friends.

Accommodation services are available to young people aged over 16 years who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness. While living in Anglicare youth accommodation programs, young people are supported to develop skills to enable them to live independently. If needed, counselling and support is provided to enable them to return to live in the family home. Crisis accommodation (up to 3 months duration) and transitional accommodation (up to 12 months) is provided.

Anglicare crisis accommodation is fully staffed on a 24-hour basis by trained and caring professional staff.

Youth counselling and accommodation services are available in

  • Beenleigh
  • Cleveland

Anglicare youth homelessness programs are funded by the Queensland Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services.

Youth support co-ordinators

The youth support co-ordinator initiative is aimed at young people who have newly disengaged, or who are at risk of disengaging, from education and training.  Young people aged 14 to 17 years who are at risk of not completing Year 12 are supported through services such as individual case work, group activities and community projects with the aim of promoting social inclusion and increasing participation in education and training.
Anglicare youth support co-ordinators work in a range of school and community settings, and are important members of the education team. Anglicare is funded to provide youth support co-ordinators in:

  • Roma and surrounds (Roma child protection and youth services)
  • Chinchilla (Roma child protection and youth services)

Anglicare youth support co-ordinator programs are funded through the Youth support co-ordinator initiative, a joint initiative of the Queensland Departments of Education, Training and Employment and the Queensland Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services.
