Family intervention services

Family intervention servicesFamilies are referred to Anglicare Family Intervention Services by the Department of Communities, Child Safety to enable them to develop skills and capacity to care for their children safely. Families under high stress, whose child or children may be at risk of entering care, are supported to stay together in ways that are in the best interests of the child or children, and recognising the needs of all family members.

Services may be provided in the family home and focus on the development of practical skills to enable parents to care for their child, and improve the safety of the family home environment. Practical assistance may include managing the developmental needs of the child, building positive interactions between parent and child, personal skill development and developing parenting skills through the provision of education, training, support and supervision.

Family Intervention Services may also be used to support re-unification of a child or children with their family after a period of statutory care.

Linking families to the range of supports, services and networks available in their local community is also an important element of the Family Intervention Service.
