Wording for a Will

The following wording is intended as a guide only and we recommend that you seek advice from a solicitor who is experienced in wills and estates.

Suggested wording for a Will

"I give and bequeath to THE CORPORATION OF THE SYNOD OF THE DIOCESE OF BRISBANE ("Anglican Church Southern Queensland")

[choose one of the following (a) to (d)]

  1. To bequeath a percentage (%) of your estate.

    .......percent of my estate, free from all duties, to be applied for the purposes of Anglicare Southern Queensland 

    (ABN 87 813 355 862) in such a manner as Anglicare SQ may determine and I declare a general charitable intention.

  2. To bequeath a residue of your total estate.

    The residue of my estate to be applied for the purposes of Anglicare Southern Queensland (ABN 87 813 355 862)

    in such a manner as Anglicare SQ may determine and I declare a general charitable intention.

  3. To bequeath a specific sum of cash from your estate.

    The sum of ..........................., free from all duties, to be applied for the purposes of Anglicare Southern Queensland 

    (ABN 87 813 355 862) in such a manner as Anglicare SQ may determine and I declare a general charitable intention.

  4. To bequeath a specific item (property or other) from your estate

    The following items of property, free from all duties, to be applied for the purposes of Anglicare Southern Queensland 

    (ABN 87 813 355 862) in such a manner as Anglicare Southen Queensland may determine:

If Anglicare SQ ceases to exist before my death, or is not known by that name at the date of my death, the Anglican Church Southern Queensland will apply the gift to the welfare services of the Anglican Church Southern Queensland.

I direct that the receipt of the General Manager of the Anglican Church Southern Queensland shall constitute a full and sufficient discharge to my executors and trustees.

Suggested wording for a trust

"My trustees shall hold my estate on trust and apply the income from the trust to The Corporation of the Synod of the Diocese of Brisbane ("Anglican Church Southern Queensland") for the use and benefit of Anglicare Southern Queensland and I declare a general charitable intention.

If Anglicare Southern Queensland ceases to exist before my death, or is not known by that name at the date of my death, the Anglican Church Southern Queensland will apply the income to the welfare services of the Anglican Church Southern Queensland."

Addendum to Will

If you already have a Will you can simply pledge your gift by adding an addendum. Adding an addendum to a Will requires a document called a codicil. If drafted appropriately, the codicil will be considered a part of the Will.
