Christine celebrates Abri's 29th birthday
Cheerful spirits, good fortune and magical moments marked Friday 13th for staff and residents of Abri, Anglicare’s aged care home at Southport as they celebrated the home’s 29th birthday – replete with black cat cake decorations and costumes.
It will be the last Abri birthday for Manager Christine Schumacher who has announced her retirement after an extensive career which includes the past eight years with Anglicare. She is planning on spending some time with her husband and extended family after she retires on 17th September.
Christine says the 66 residents and their carers regard themselves as one big family, and that a holistic approach to caring works very successfully at “Abri” which takes its name from the original homestead that stood on the site in Bauer Street. From French, it means “Place of Trees”.
